Subtitlely ("we", "our", or "Service") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect information when you use Subtitlely.

1. Information We Collect

We may collect the following information:

Account Information

If you create an account, we may collect:

  • Email address
  • Display name, username, profile image, and account identifier
  • Email-verification and authentication information
  • Account settings, moderation status, and subscription status

Public Subtitle Library Content

When you intentionally upload to the public subtitle library or create a stored translation from a public subtitle page, we may collect:

  • Subtitle file content and translated subtitle content
  • File name, format, size, and file hash
  • Source and target languages
  • Related IMDb ID and other title metadata
  • Upload time and uploader account

Usage and Technical Information

We may collect information about how you use Subtitlely, including:

  • Subtitle downloads and daily usage-limit records
  • Uploads, favorites, watchlist items, reports, and account activity
  • Pages viewed, referral sources, device information, and analytics events
  • IP address or an anonymized address identifier used for security and anonymous download limits
  • Browser, device, session, and basic request information

Billing Information

When you purchase Premium, we may receive from Stripe:

  • Stripe customer and subscription identifiers
  • Subscription status, price identifier, renewal period, and cancellation status
  • Payment and refund status needed to maintain Premium access

Subtitlely does not receive or store your complete payment-card number.

2. How Subtitle Files Are Processed

Standalone Subtitle Translator

The standalone translator reads the selected file in your browser. Subtitle text needed for translation is sent directly from your browser to a third-party translation provider.

Subtitlely does not save or publish files or results created only with the standalone translator.

Subtitle Converter

The subtitle converter processes the selected file locally in your browser. Files used only with the converter are not uploaded to or stored by Subtitlely.

Public Library Uploads and Translations

Files intentionally submitted through the Upload page are stored and displayed publicly. Translations created and submitted from a public subtitle page are also stored and may be offered publicly for download.

Deleting an account may remove the connection between a public subtitle and the uploader account without necessarily removing the public subtitle itself.

3. How We Use Information

We use collected information to:

  • Operate the subtitle library, accounts, downloads, translation tools, and Premium features
  • Attribute public uploads and maintain subtitle metadata
  • Apply download limits, detect duplicate activity, and prevent abuse
  • Review reports, moderate content, and enforce account restrictions
  • Process subscriptions, refunds, and billing status
  • Secure, maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the Service

4. Public Information

Your display name, username, profile page, and public subtitle contributions may be visible to other users and search engines.

Do not include private or sensitive personal information in display names, usernames, subtitle descriptions, or uploaded files.

5. Service Providers and Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information.

We may provide limited information to service providers needed to operate Subtitlely, including:

  • Translation providers, including Google translation services, when you request translation
  • Stripe for subscription billing and payment management
  • Google when you choose social sign-in
  • Google Analytics for website traffic and usage measurement
  • Cloudflare for content delivery, security, and privacy-focused web analytics
  • Hosting, storage, database, email, security, and infrastructure providers

We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect users or the Service, or in connection with a business transfer.

6. Data Storage and Retention

Public subtitle files and their metadata may be retained until removed through moderation, a valid rights request, or an administrative decision.

Account, subscription, report, moderation, and security records are retained for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Service, resolve disputes, enforce policies, and meet legal obligations.

Short-lived download-limit and duplicate-request records expire automatically. Anonymous download limits use an anonymized identifier derived from the network address rather than storing the address directly in the limit key.

7. Cookies and Sessions

Subtitlely may use cookies and similar technologies to:

  • Maintain user sessions
  • Protect authentication flows and remember account state
  • Apply security and usage controls
  • Measure website traffic and usage through Google Analytics

Google Analytics may set analytics cookies. You may control cookies through your browser or block analytics requests with a content blocker.

8. Your Choices and Account Requests

You may update supported profile information and manage an active subscription from your account settings.

You may request account deletion, correction of personal information, or review of a moderation decision by contacting us.

When an account is deleted, personal account information may be removed or anonymized. Public subtitle contributions may remain available with the uploader association removed unless the content is also removed.

9. Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction.

However, no online service can guarantee complete security.

10. Children's Privacy

Subtitlely is not intended for users under the age required by applicable laws.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children without appropriate consent.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.

The updated version will be posted on this page with a revised update date.
